CityPups

An adoption website connecting people living in cities to compatible pets

Macbook-Pro-01-1

INTRODUCTION

The adoption process should be a wonderful and fulfilling experience but through research and interviews, CityPups has discovered that people living in cities struggle to find the right dog to adopt due to their unique needs. Users have faced similar issues on different adoption platforms and have expressed their needs. Through this design sprint, the goal is to find visual design solutions to enhance adoption experiences.

TIMELINE

10 days UX Design Sprint

The Problem

People living in cities struggle to find the right dog to adopt due to their unique needs and heavily rely on adoption sources to provide them accurate information. When choosing the right companion, adoption ends up being a large risk due to the lack of information available in answering deciding factors.

Day 1: Understanding the Problem

There was a lack of information and filtering options that allow users to successfully and efficiently find compatibility.

Based on the interview responses, I've uncovered users' frustrations, needs, and feedback on existing adoption platforms. This includes what makes their search experiences successful and what important information they're looking for. This lead me to ask:

  • How can we organize the results so that users can easily identify the information they need?
  • What are the crucial information and details users look for when adopting a pet?
  • How can we ensure further inquiries are answered through third-party websites?

Day 2: Ideation

Coming up with solutions that will allow users to efficiently find pets they are compatible with.

During ideation, I wanted to take a closer look at our user's journey and identifying solutions to their painpoints an obstacles they have faced. Through the given usability testing, I was able to get a better perspective through the user's lens during their adoption search process.

Day 3 + 4: Decisions + Prototypes

Turning ideas into visual solutions

After coming up with multiple solutions, I started sketching low fidelities to get a better visual on how I want to design this website. To get a better sense, I gained UI inspirations from comparative websites with similar search usabilities such as Zillow, AirBnb, and RedFin. These sketches contain annotations on important information and details I believe are crucial in a pet adoption website. This helped me organize solutions I find useful in catering to user needs.

Day 5: Testing + Improvements

Any information is helpful!

After completing my high fidelity prototypes, I carried out usability testing with 5 users. For this design sprint, the tasks and designs were very straightfoward. I received overall positive feedback but there is always room for improvement:

  • Few changes in UI colors for accessibility/readability
  • Based on interviews and testing, users had issues and confusion with the size descriptions of animals so I added a size chart reference
  • Minor changes in wording to avoid confusion on certain pages
